Course Content

These are the compulsory lessons



EMERGENCY FIRST AID
Approximate time 8 hours which includes lunch and breaks (no renewal course)
(May renew Standard First Aid certification on this course, conditions apply)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FIRST AIDER

Legal aspects of first aid
How to prevent disease transmission

EMERGENCY SCENE MANAGEMENT

Scene survey, Primary survey, Secondary survey, On going casualty care
Shock, unconscious and fainting
Head/Spinal/Pelvic injuries

ADULT RESUSCITATION

Cardiovascular emergencies (heart attack and stroke)
1-rescuer Adult CPR


AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)Hands-on training with an AED trainer

ADULT CHOKING

Airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious adult)

SEVERE BLEEDING AND WOUND CARE

First aid for severe bleeding (external and internal)
Care of amputated tissue
Infection of a wound
Wounds with embedded objects
Wound to the palm of the hand
Bleeding nose, gums, tongue and cheek
Abdominal wounds
Bites, stings and allergic reactions
Burns


MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Diabetes, Seizures, Severe asthma attack and allergic reactions that effect breathing

 

STANDARD FIRST AID (Approximate time 16 hours which includes lunch and breaks) (renewal course 8 hours, must show a non-expired card. Can renew card only once and must be by the original training agency)

The entire emergency compulsory lessons plus an additional 6.5 hours of elective lessons which are chosen from the lessons below that are applicable to your workplace requirements

These CPR courses can be taught on their own without a First Aid Course

CPR (A) *Included with all First Aid Courses:

  • 4 hour course
  • 1-rescuer Adult CPR
  • Adult choking
  • Barrier device/pocket mask
  • AED (public access defibrillation)
  • Heart attack and stroke

 CPR (C):

  • 6 hour course (renewal course 2 hours, must show a non-expired card)
  • 1-rescuer Adult/child/infant CPR
  • Adult/child/infant choking
  • Barrier device/pocket mask
  • AED introduction
  • Heart attack and stroke (signs and symptoms review)

CPR (C) FOR THE HEALTH CARE PROVIDER:

  • All the CPR Level (C) plus
  • 2-rescuer Adult /child CPR
  • 2-rescuer infant (thumb technique)
  • Pulse assessment
  • BVM
  • Respiratory arrest
  • Formal competency evaluation and closed book written evaluation

  • Course time varies
